Started this morning with temps near 50 degrees. Talked to my parents (at their cabin) and it was snowing so hard that they could NOT see across the lake. We had a forecast of 68 by 3pm and that it would be stormy and windy this afternoon.
Turns out, we topped out at 74 degrees and I didn't really notice wind. It was much nicer OUTSIDE the house, than inside!
Mike had laughed because when he looked at our weather widgets on the computer, around Sydney's bedtime, our current temperature in Dubuque was warmer than Burlington, WI / Corvallis, OR / SanFrancisco, CA / Springfield, SC and Daytona Beach, FL!
Around Sydney's bedtime, we noticed that the sky was lighting up from lightening. All of a sudden, while reading a story to him, it sounded like golfballs hitting the house. Mike looked out the window and reported "reasonably large hail". When I peeked out the window a few minutes later, the stuff in the driveway looked like it was between the size of rock salt and ice cubes.
Otto, our less friendly cat, was FREAKING OUT!!! He didn't know what was going on (or where to hide). It WAS very loud bouncing off our roof upstairs. He hid under the dining room table and cried very loudly. He no longer felt safe hiding under the bed.
A little while ago, I saw the Weather Channel reporting 3-3.5" hail outside of Dubuque. A few minutes later, I saw that our neighbors (across the street) had posted this pic on Facebook:
