Today, I laughed (a few times, actually). Let me tell you WHY...
It started out innocently enough. The boys were snuggled together in Mike's chair watching Iowa Public Television. I had run upstairs to strip a bed from an overnight diaper blow-out and I had heard the announcement "Mommy, we want cereal."
I guess I hadn't been quick enough because I came downstairs to find THIS
and THIS
Sydney proclaimed that he got the cereal down for Silas:
Cinnamon LIFE for Sydney and
Cinnamon Quaker Oat Squares for Silas.
AND THEN, I discovered THIS
as well as crumbs ALL OVER the dining room floor.
I grabbed the Hoover and cleaned up the chair (and the seat of the couch). Next, I went to look for my broom to tackle the dining room floor, but I couldn't find it ANYWHERE. I had checked everywhere that I could think, but STILL couldn't find it.
On a whim, I decided to call Mike at work.
I glanced out the kitchen window. "I don't see it out there."
"I'm pretty sure SOMEONE left it out there. Most likely, you will find it behind the chimney column."
"OK, Thanks! I'll go look out there."
YEP, there it is! Right where he said it MIGHT BE.
I don't know WHY I didn't think to look there?!?!
Suddenly, I'm cracking jokes in my head about a witch with Alzheimer's that can't remember where she parked her broom so, climbed down a ladder instead. OH, speaking of ladders... Silas can climb those, too. (We now keep those parallel to the ground... AND for good reason!)
A little while later, I laughed when I saw Silas sitting (proudly) in the toy shopping cart.
I missed the shot BEFORE this one,
but caught the DURING
AND the after...
as well as the change of direction AND
the announcement of "There, that's better!"
Yesterday afternoon, I freaked out when I saw Silas STANDING on the tiny ledge of the sunporch, playing with the garage door opener. I shouted "Don't move! Stay still! Don't move!" and rescued him. Of course, he had NO IDEA that he was in any danger. I explained to him that he can't go up there and that we didn't want him to get hurt. I apologized to Mike for missing THAT picture yesterday, but I was really concerned for his safety and immediate danger.
After I scolded him, he replied sweetly "OK, mom." as if it is no big deal.
This morning, I heard a (calm) quiet, plea coming from the sunporch
"Um, mom? Need a little help here. Can't get down now.
Need that garage door opener. Want that. Can't get down. Help please."
AH, YES... and THAT is why they say "Nothing is taller than a 2-year old."
