I started this blog around the time that we were kicking around the idea of starting a family because I thought it would be nice to document "our journey of life." Also, we had married and moved away to MN, leaving behind all of my family and friends so, it was an opportunity to keep them "in the loop".
Once I found out I was pregnant, we enjoyed reading and documenting how BIG the baby was... and wondered if it was a boy or a girl. In fact, we used to say that baby's name was HeShe. Eventually, we decided upon a family name of SYDNEY and planned to use it regardless of the sex, changing out the middle name appropriately. And so, Sydney got HIS name.
When Number Two came around, we picked HIS names off of Mike's family trees. SILAS is Mike's middle name and the name of his paternal great-grandfather. His middle name honors our Dubuque heritage... JACOB... after the name JF RIS that is on the plaque at the 4th Street Elevator; from Mike's maternal branches. And so, Silas Jacob got HIS name.
In my past life, I had been unhappily married to a high school sweetheart. Then, I came to my senses - divorced him and my life has been WONDERFUL ever since! I find it hard to believe that I had ever uttered the words "I don't want kids" because NOW, I can't imagine my life without my little boys! I never knew that being a parent would be SO MUCH FUN and am loving every minute of it!
I feel so fortunate for being in the right place at the right time and meeting Mike. He has been a near-perfect match for me and to this day, we have still never fought (or had the honor of making up). He helped me gain back my ability to make decisions, since I had no opinion for so many years prior to meeting him. He also reminds me that he likes me JUST THE WAY I AM and encourages me that I look good without makeup on. I wake up each day feeling like I am the LUCKIEST GIRL IN THE WORLD for meeting him and falling in love!
I think that being a stay-at-home-mom is the BEST and most rewarding job in the world, but I under-estimated how much work it truly is. (Mike, my loving husband, is convinced that we sit and watch Oprah all day long. HA! If only he knew....)
I don't think there is a day that goes by where I don't utter the words "I just love them SO INCREDIBLY MUCH!" A happy marriage and motherhood have changed my life for the better and I am forever grateful.
