Monsieur Saguette and his Baguette

Sydney wants to be the author AND illustrator of this book that he decided to recreate. He started with the front cover and kept asking "What's this silly looking letter?"

"That's a silly-looking A... That's a silly looking G."

"G. Like Guard!"

Sydney is proud to attempt to make his very own copy.

(HE'S TOTALLY MY CHILD!!!)

One Sunday afternoon, Monsieur Saguette made himself a pot of hot carrot soup. "Ah, soup and bread..." (TO BE CONTINUED)

Turning FIVE is a reason to celebrate {Let's Party!}

Sydney's birthday started with Daddy sneaking into the bedroom (before work) and putting BALLOONS all over Sydney's bed and his half of the bedroom.

At 5:05am, Mommy awoke (from a sound sleep) to "Mommy? I thought you would like to snuggle with me because it is my birSday!"

Disoriented, I smiled, trying to open my eyes, perplexed how he climbed into bed with me, without me even knowing it. "I DO want to snuggle with you. Happy Birthday!"

Happy Birthday to you,
Happy Birthday
to you!
 Happy Birthday,
dear Sydney....

 Happy Birthday to you!

He leans over and kisses my cheek and proceeds to rub it in. Then, we snuggle, for 45 minutes or so, before I finally realized that he is far TOO EXCITED TO SLEEP, while I am kicking myself for staying up so late (close to midnight) last night.

Sydney LOVED the surprise of the Crayola Window Markers where I had drawn a cake and giant happy face on the dining room window. The FIVE balloons I had drawn had DRIPPED down the window so, we wiped those off. Then, Sydney and I used the markers to decorate the windows.

We decorated the driveway door.... PERFECT for a party!

Classmates (and siblings) in attendance, joining Sydney and Silas:
Jack, baby sister Taryn, Chloe, Grant, brother Harry, Brayden, sister Cadence, James, Katie, baby sister Libby, Sophie, Kimberly, and twins Matthew & Samuel. (Thankfully, most of the mothers stuck around for some social time and to help.)

EMBARRASSMENT 1: I had asked Mike to get switch plates and outlet covers for the Bonus Room. Instead, he used brown packaging tape and TAPED over the missing ones on the ceiling and walls. It looked 100% REDNECK! (For working IN a home improvement store, I was SO EMBARRASSED for parents to see that.) Our beautiful VIEW from our yard, more than made up for it though.

We played in the bonus room. We drew on windows. We attempted to do a relay race. (Epic fail.) We enjoyed apple juice and cupcakes. The spinners were busy flying while we sang Happy Birthday to Sydney.

We passed out treat bags: fruit snacks; yellow, smiley face balloon; yellow bendable smiley guy; 2 sheets of smiley face stickers; bottle of bubbles shaped like an ice cream cone AND star-shaped sunglasses in various colors (*favorite colors reserved for children who Sydney knew their favorites... Grant and Samuel get YELLOW, Jack gets RED.)

Then, most of the parents left because many of them had to pick up other children from school.

A few stayed for Sydney to open presents. (Chloe, Sophie, Katie, Matthew & Samuel) Many of the children made their own cards for Sydney; super cute! Samuel even MADE Sydney a coloring book.

EMBARRASSMENT 2: Sydney opened Sophie's gift and muttered, sadly "Oh, it's JUST Legos."

Sophie's mom quickly announced "The receipt is in there if he wants to take it back."

"I don't think he means it like that. He has NO IDEA HOW COOL LEGOS are! He will LOVE THEM!!!"

We talked about Silas and his constant NEED to put EVERYTHING in his mouth and how we've stayed away from Legos so far, sticking to Duplo blocks.

We played a while longer with the twins and Sophie. Later, Sophie decorated our front window; she was the class artist. AMAZING TALENT!!! We visited with her mom, Amy.

Sydney requested PIZZA for supper: pepperoni, meatballs, cheese AND black olives... on the side!
(Mike brought ingredients from Papa Murphy's and we made it all ourselves.) "Daddy's got it covered!" he proudly proclaimed. (Looks like we have enough to make MORE, too!)

EMBARRASSMENT 3: After opening Grandpa's birthday card, Sydney announced "It's just five dollar." (We reminded him that GRANDPA bought us THE BEST MAY BIRTHDAY PRESENT... a family swim pass so we can swim EVERY DAY if we want to! He agrees that THAT is pretty awesome.)

Turns out, Sydney DOES LOVE Legos! (Grandpa Lowell and Sydney built the logging truck last night before bed; unfortunately, it had rolled off the table and crashed into a half-million pieces, causing a MAJOR past-my-bedtime/woke-too-early MELTDOWN.

Sydney was asked "WHO were you MOST EXCITED TO SEE today?"
ANSWER: Kimberly!

(She has been his FAVORITE GIRL since 3K. In 4K, he also talked about Kylie or Chloe once in a while.)

Sydney's FAVORITE BOY in 4K
ANSWER: Matthew (twin)

(He knew that he was "best friends" with one of the twins, but could never remember which one. Their mom, Sally, informed us "Matthew and Sydney LOVE to play together at school!" (Phew! NOW we know WHICH ONE.) Proudly, by the end of the year, I could tell the twins apart. They are both neat kids!)

We are HOPING to meet up with classmates this summer for playdates and pool time. Sydney IS sad that no one else is going to the same kindergarten as HE is. After dinner, he did wonder "Do I have to go to kindergarten TOMORROW?" and seemed relieved that WE HAVE A WHOLE SUMMER OF PLAYTIME AHEAD OF US FIRST!!!

An AMAZING BIRTHDAY for an INCREDIBLE BOY! Sydney we LOVE YOU SO MUCH!!!
("To the moon, and sun and ALL OF THE PLANETS... and back" he often says.)

*Mom re-built the logging truck Thursday morning. VERY COOL!

2014_SUMMER FUN_04: For the LOVE of LEMON!

After returning from the pool and enjoying warm clothes and hot chocolate, the boys discovered a LOVE of lemon sorbet. Sydney was apprehensive to try it, but Silas convinced him it was really good. The two of them ate almost the entire container in one sitting.

It was VERY refreshing!!!

Tastes like frozen lemonade. Delicious!

Kissable Lip(print)

Relieved that parenting opinions match

This afternoon, at the pool, we saw an adult figure with several children of various ages. One of the children had the majority of his head shaved, but left his remaining mohawk long and HOT PINK in color.

"For the record, I do NOT approve of PINK HAIR. EVER!"

"I think they would wake up to find their entire head shaved bald."

(SO relieved that hubby agrees with my protest against hot pink hair. I'm not all that keen on mohawks either.)

2014_SUMMER FUN 03: A BEAUTIFUL DAY to be outside... together

"Poor Baby Bird... his mother must be VERY SAD!" Sydney proclaimed when we found THIS laying in the driveway under the nesting area.

Cats Eddy and Otto enjoyed time in the yard and noticed the catnip.

CATNIP!!!

Fresh air, sunshine... PURRfect!

If no one minds, I think I will just hang out HERE for a while and watch the birds. - Eddy

Headed to the pool! (Thanks for taking the picture, Grandpa Lowell!)

2014_SUMMER FUN 02

This morning, Sydney made an ice cream stand and used popsicle sticks as MONEY to buy invisible ice cream. Late in the morning, we went to Grandpa's house. Late in the day, we discovered a LOVE of playing frisbee as a family. (Too bad Dad was at work.) Silas got hit in the head with the frisbee so, when Sydney threw, we'd yell "DUCK!" and Silas would take cover, giggling.

When we came home, we stopped at Daddy's work for bedtime hugs and kisses.

Then, at home, we were dive-bombed by a bird when we opened the sunporch door. Looking up, we saw a baby bird hanging head-first out of the crack in the underside of the soffit. We found a stick and shoved it back into the "nesting area" that we've been "meaning to fix" for a while now...

This is the baby bird... head first... not even his eyes are open yet. (My thumb is HUGE compared to little bird!)

2014_SUMMER FUN 01

The boys eagerly wore their bug catchers ($1 from the Dollar Store; thanks Nana & Papa!) to search for bugs. I love watching Silas with his bugs. He gets SO DISAPPOINTED when his boxelder bugs fly  out. I also think it is funny how his ants are all dead before they get into his bug jar where he's convinced they will "eat grass". Being SO LOVELY, we ate lunch on the deck and then decided to try out our new picnic bag blanket (from Sam's Club). Mom is reading ALL GONE for June book club and the boys looked at LOOK & FIND books when they weren't searching for insects or getting into trouble with the hose.

Photographer SYDNEY took the pictures of Mommy. Great work, little man!

Last day of preschool for Sydney

Once upon a time, this little boy grabbed his BLUE BACKPACK and announced that he was ready for school. (09.06.2012)

He headed to the car... anxiously awaiting a new adventure (away from Mom and Silas)

Here he goes... off to 3 year old preschool!

And in the BLINK OF AN EYE...
we take him to preschool for the last time!
MAY 22, 2014 marks the LAST DAY of 4K for Sydney!

Last day of preschool for Sydney

Last day of 4K for Sydney.
Silas is eager to attend there in the fall (in the 3 year old preschool classroom)!

Show & Tell: HOOTER TOOTER WHISTLE
from the Swiss Valley Nature Center

Thankfully, mommy called the school to ask "When do you guys normally do the birthday crown?" Turns out, good thing I called.... THEY FORGOT! (They normally do it at the beginning, with Show & Tell, so that the student can wear their birthday crown all day long.) Sydney got to pick his birthday crown color at the end of the day AND to select his birthday gift from the prize box...

Sydney was eager to select THE LADYBUG HAT from the birthday box!

Saying GOOD-BYE to Mrs. Nicky before grabbing his backpack
and lining up to go outside. (We're hoping she ends up
subbing at his school next year... to check up on him!)
She assures us that HE WILL DO GREAT wherever we go!!!

Thanks for the great year Mrs. Nicky and Mrs. Jenny!

(Mrs. Connie and Sydney at the end of the year celebration.)

Last day of preschool.

As I write this post, 05.23.14, I created a NEW countdown widget,
but I'm not sure if I am ready to face THIS REALITY quite yet...

We've got an entire SUMMER FOR FUN ahead of us!

WHO is excited to come to school here in the fall?
THIS GUY!!!! (Silas is anxious for "fall")
