Toddler Logic THROW UP BUCKET

Another case of Toddler Logic:

This morning, Silas, Mommy and Sydney snuggled together in mommy's bed for a few minutes. We could hear Eddy bellowing from the hallway.

Sydney announced "I think maybe it sounds like Eddy is going to throw up."

"You think so?" I asked. "Maybe..." I confirmed.

We decided that it was time to get up so, we ventured down the hallway to see Eddy on the stairs. As he saw us coming, he ran down into the dining room and hid under the table.

A moment later, we heard his retching sound as he puked on the area rug under the table.

"Oh, No.... EDDY!" Silas shouted. "You're supposed to throw up IN the bucket; that's what I do! In the bucket; NOT on the carpet! Silly cat..."

The puke bucket that we used most recently (that has since become "a hat") was under one of the dining chairs, just inches from Eddy, actually.

"Maybe he didn't see the bucket." I announced with a smile.

"Maybe." the boys agreed in unison.

I went on to explain that cats don't have brains that think like us - people - do so, they wouldn't KNOW to throw up into the bucket. BUT it would be REALLY COOL if they did!

Sydney's Sesame Street LIVE coloring contest entry

At the library, Silas and Mommy picked up two entry forms to try to win four tickets to see Sesame Street LIVE in November. I explained to Sydney that he should try really hard to color carefully (since he hasn't been interested in "coloring" and has taken a liking to scribbling randomly instead.)

Sydney carefully picked out his colors while Silas was in charge of holding the Sesame Street book and finding a picture of the characters for Sydney to see.

I especially liked how Sydney made Ernie's shirt horizontal striped and Bert's in vertical stripes.

Later, we'll have Silas take a chance at coloring HIS version. Then, we'll drop our entries off at the library for a chance to win.

Sydney announced "That would be JUST PERFECT to win four tickets. It sure would be fun if ALL OF US could go! Because we would need 1... 2... 3... 4 tickets because there are four of us in this family!"

TODDLER LOGIC: Hatching out of the egg first

SYDNEY: I am going to be bigger than Silas.... because.... I hatched out of my egg first.

MOM: Your egg?

SYDNEY: Yeah, my egg in your belly. I hatched out first so, that means I will be bigger than Silas.

(*3 year preschool class project was hatching CHICKS from eggs. **He knows that he was inside of mommy's belly once. Guess he's just trying to figure things out in the world...)

Curious George... no crayons in ears

This morning, while talking on the phone to Nana, Silas was watching Curious George on PBS kids television. All of a sudden, he stopped me from talking and announced "We don't put crayons in our ears."

"You're right! We DON'T put crayons in our ears!" (Although I was a little puzzled WHY he said that, sitting in my lap in the recliner.)

Then, I realized on Curious George, they were mini-golfing and the scorekeeper held the pencil behind his ear.

Silas interpreted that, with his active 2-year-old-mind, as a crayon in his ear.

That kid PAYS ATTENTION!!!

Swiss Valley Nature Preserve Chili Feed:

Best of Weekend SATURDAY_101213

We went to the Kids Concert at the library to see a Trio perform... playing an oboe, a bassoon and a piano. (Grandpa tried to take a picture of us, but that big bassoon got in the way!)

We went to the KIDS EXPO at the Grand River Center. 

(Grandpa took this picture of the boys and mommy at the corn bin. FUN!)

The caped crusader, BATMAN, was posing for pictures

and passing out bat rings. This amazing SUPERMAN DUO

posed - with Grandpa - for a picture. (Since last year, the boys

have switched places... last time, Silas was anxious to pose with

Batman, while Sydney was afraid. This time around, Sydney

was THRILLED to pose with Batman and Silas was fearful.)

Our two little SUPER HEROES are pretty amazing!!!

We love them SO VERY MUCH!!!!!

After Silas and Grandpa napped, we tackled the messy job

of carving one of the pumpkins. (The biggest one!) Grandpa

cut into it. The boys each took one turn to scoop out the pumpkin guts.

If only my hands would have been clean, I would have LOVED

to capture pictures of Sydney GAGGING from the sight of

the bowl full of pumpkin guts on the table. It was FUNNY!

(Poor guy... has SUCH a high gag reflex!)

It was a tough pumpkin to carve.... it was VERY THICK!!!

Grandpa took a picture of Mommy and Sydney getting ready

to carve the pumpkin. (We had moved inside because the wind

was cold.) Deciding on which image to carve was tough work!

Sydney picked the witch in the window, that Mike had pinned 

on Pinterest last week for us. FUN! FUN!

Sydney was excited that he was ALLOWED to sit on the table

so that he could watch Mommy poke the pumpkin template on.

At last, our pumpkin is done.

We're ready to LIGHT IT!!!

It was the wrong time of day to get full cooperation

for another picture, but HERE we are with our pumpkin!

Funny Things Kids Say... BIRDS

We had another BEAUTIFUL DAY today - with temps in the 70's! After picking Sydney up from preschool, we stopped at the library to pick up some BRAND NEW Mr. Putter & Tabby books (that they had ordered, per our request) and then, headed home for some lunch. We decided to eat outside on the deck and it was PERFECT!

While eating, Silas started running across the bench - away from the table.

SYDNEY: Why were you running, Silas?

SILAS: There was a bird.

SYDNEY: Birds don't eat children; Birds eat bugs... and worms, silly!

Fall 2013: Pumpkin Patch

Mike's Favorite part of the day: 

When I had propped my camera on a concrete ledge and was getting a scene ready for a self-timer family picture... when all of a sudden, a cow nudged my arm and slurped its tongue towards the side of my face. Of course, I squealed like a girl and startled the two cows that were curiously checking me out. (He was a little disappointed that Carol was busy looking at pics on her own camera and had missed out on the photo op of catching the cows getting fresh with me. Had she caught that picture, that likely would have been my Photo-of-the-Day for our family Project Life album.) I have included a photo of my bovine friends to help us remember the day.
