Parents as Teachers sensory play

Parents as Teachers came to our house yesterday, bringing a giant rubbermaid tub of tiny plastic beads. Also in the box (of tiny sensory beads) were various toys: snakes, bugs, balls, dogs, ducks, horses, a variety of funnels and shovels, etc.

Sydney got to play in the tub with "our teacher friend".

Mommy's lesson learned: Next time they bring this activity for playtime, despite their plastic tablecloth to help contain them, opt to play in the dining room instead of on the living room's shag area rug because they weren't the easiest to get out of the carpet and we'll have a new baby soon.

We had also discussed a developmental email update that I had just received that talked about JUMPING. This is a milestone for kids to learn to jump with both feet. Sydney demonstrated it VERY WELL as soon as we started talking about it. He had great fun JUMPING with our teacher friend's assistance - off of the rubbermaid tub. (I think he was sad when it was time for her to go to someone else's house because they had fun.) He had also enjoyed reading some books with her.

Her observation is that Sydney is VERY EAGER to please and learn.

We talked about his growing list of vocabulary and the fact that he'll eventually NEED to communicate words better. As parents, we know that "betta-butta" is blueberry, belly button, bubble bath or peanut butter - depending upon context or scenario, but he will eventually TRY to communicate the words better for other people simply because he will WANT to communicate with them.

Interesting stuff... learning about kids and their developmental progress.
