Happy 4-month Birthday Little One

Today, we celebrated four full months of having Sydney in our home and in our hearts.

We started off the day with Sydney being stuck on his belly, with the side of his body stuck parallel against the front of his bed. By the time he cried for Mommy to rescue him, he was kicking his feet, banging his head on the rungs of the bed and was soaked from head-to-toe. Somehow, in his moving and thrashing, he managed to wet himself and his bed. So, he got stripped down and washed off with warm water before being nursed and snuggling in bed with Mommy to get warm again. Later, when it wasn't 5am and feeling much like the middle of the night, we enjoyed a warm bath together and tried on a new sleep 'n play in a 6-9 month size. (It is a hare too long, but we're sure it will fit him perfectly in no time... since he seems to be growing like a weed and eating often.)

Today, we discovered a channel on cable tv that plays Toddler Tunes all day long. Mommy thought it was funny when "Old McDonald" came on because Sydney stopped playing to look in the direction of the television with a big smile on his face, obvious that he recognized that song.

We also went for a walk outside in the cool and blustery day. Sydney got to wear his newest hat, which was a little big, but protected his ears from the wind. He liked it as long as it didn't slip down in front of his eyes. During our walk, we even helped rescue a neighbor's cat who's rope was tangled among trees and such.

This afternoon, after Daddy got home, we laughed because Sydney was sitting on Mommy's lap on the floor when all of a sudden, he decided that he wanted to stand up and walk. Mommy was caught off-guard and was surprised by his eagerness to be on the move. (We're still hoping that CRAWLING is the next step for him, but Syd certainly likes to walk while holding onto our fingers.) He demonstrated this move a handful of times tonight so, if he's ever sitting in your lap - BE WARNED that this baby likes to attempt to stand up on his own.

Tonight, he is dressed in snuggley polartec pajamas - light blue fleece with brown footballs all over them and mock athletic shoe feet. Tuesday's low is forecasted at a frigid-for-early-fall 35°F. BRRRrrrr!

We played on the floor from 7:40 until almost 9:30 before Mommy noticed a yawn. (YES, finally a chance for us to proceed with bedtime rituals!) We even read "Happy Birthday Biscuit" in honor of Sydney's 4-month birthday. (Daddy would probably argue that Sydney wants a puppy, but we've agreed that it is best to wait until Sydney is old enough to help pick it out and know that Daddy has enough time to spend with his dog AND his son.) Sydney had been talking and smiling up a storm tonight. He certainly is a delightfully, happy baby. We're still working on giggles... mostly inspired by tickling, excessive kisses or when Mommy faked another round of hiccups - since the real thing sparked spontaneous laughter yesterday.

After Daddy went up for bed, Daddy dug out the space heater so that Sydney's room will stay warmer during the colder months. Sydney wakes each day with cold fingers and feet, but we understand that babies are not known for having the best circulation yet at this age. Mommy didn't know that Daddy had shut Syd's door so, when she brought him upstairs for bed, she ran his little head into the closed door. (He had been riding across the length of my arm, belly down; so, he hit the door head-first. Mommy felt terrible, but understands that Sydney will get LOTS of bumps and bruises because he is A BOY!) After a 3-second delayed reaction, he cried because of the bump on his forehead, but quickly forgot about it when we got to go in and wake up Daddy.

After his little BUMP IN THE NIGHT, he nursed and went to sleep, which is where Mommy should be now, too. Happy birthday baby boy... sweet dreams!
