Trying trigger point injections

Today was the day that we tried trigger point injections in an attempt to remedy my left shoulder irritation (feelings of wearing an icy hot patch or having ants running across my shoulder/back.)

The doctor did two injections in my shoulder near my neck and one lower in my back near my braline.

I'd like to report that the injections helped. Within a few days, it had relaxed the tense neck muscles, but the icy hot ants have remained. (Didn't respond to physical therapy or trigger point injections; probably from the MS.)

Favorite Part of the Day FPoD 03_31_2015

Night after night, we continue our routine of "What's your favorite part of the day?"

Night after night, after making us recount every little detail of our day and events, Silas stumps us with "I'm still thinking; I'll tell you tomorrow!" OR he changes the rules: I can only say mine AFTER Daddy... OR I can only say mine if the lights are OFF... OR I can only tell you if Daddy is here, too.

Typically, Sydney sums his FPoD into one word: SCHOOL! (If we try to coax which part of school was so remarkable, but he is always unable to give us an answer. Art class? Music? Gym? A fantastic lunch? Something fun or funny that happened? The poor guy must hate weekends when he has to actually rethink his day and come up with a valid answer.)

Tonight, marked a miraculous occasion! We all had an answer and they were ALL different!

Mommy went first:
My favorite part of the day was sitting in the sunshine - in our yard - with Sydney and Silas while reading the book with NO WORDS! (The Hero of Little Street by Gregory Rogers) This was essentially a comic book for children.

Sydney was eager to go next:
Buying Girl Scout cookies! (Frank and Bev's grand-daughter stopped by with her wagon of leftover boxes of cookies. Our two choices were Caramel Delights or Peanut Butter Sandwiches. Mike declared that he HATES coconut so, Caramel Delights were out of the questions. I did, however, have the opportunity to tell the boys that THOSE used to be one of my Grandma Olson's FAVORITE Girl Scout cookies. Sydney announced "I remember you telling me about her. She's the one who had secret tunnels in her attic!")

Silas shouted:
When Daddy picked me up from school today... IN HIS TRUCK!

Daddy made us GUESS what HIS favorite part of the day was. I whispered an idea into Sydney's ear, thinking I'd know what his FPoD was. (Dinner as a family is often Daddy's go-to answer, much like SCHOOL is for Sydney.)

Sydney announced "Eating dinner together as a family on our sunporch!"

"That is a great part of my day, but that is NOT my favorite part!"

Hmmmm..... re-thinking.... OH, I think I know... (whisper in Sydney's ear again)

Daddy:
"Was it when Silas fell asleep, snuggled up against you, in your truck?"

"It WAS! That was pretty special."

Silas and Daddy ran errands while Mommy got trigger point injections for her isolated patch of icy hot/ants sensation of her left shoulder that has been going on since last summer. They did one injection near my bra line and two in my neck. Silas fell asleep in the truck - where I found them in the parking lot after my appointment. {so sweet}

Ladybug Girl sunning on our sunporch

Silas is signed up for the Dolly Parton Imagination Library where he gets an age appropriate book mailed to him each month until he turns five. A while back, he got a Ladybug Girl book.

The boys have found others at the library, as well.

On a warm, sunny day, we thought it was HILARIOUS that we found a real ladybug on the Ladybug Girl book, sitting in the windowsill of our sunporch.

Celebrating Papa's Birthday: When I'm 64

On Saturday, March 21, when we were in town to do taxes and get haircuts from "the Princess"
We also celebrated an early birthday for Papa. On March 29, Papa turns SIXTY-FOUR and the Beatles classic "When I'm 64" may suddenly feel more meaningful (to him).

We were lucky enough to photograph Papa with ALL THREE of his grandkids with him to celebrate his (early) birthday.

Sydney made him something special in the garage... a wooden circle.
Silas drew him a picture of a birthday cake and tried to write 64 on it.
I gave him a memoir called "Lots of Candles, Plenty of Cake" which spoke to me for so many reasons.
(Afterall, what DO you get the guy who has... EVERYTHING?!?!)

ALSO, we thought it was pretty EXCITING that Papa is 64... on the same year that Sydney will turn SIX and Silas will turn FOUR. (Looks like we'll need to buy NO MORE CANDLES!)

Happy Birthday Papa!

Forgotten sign language (and FASTER!)

The boys have both forgotten that they used baby sign language as a major form of communication for the first few years of their lives.

From time to time, at dinner, we try to remind them to say PLEASE, but perhaps they think we are just wiping our hands on the front of our shirts, like they tend to do.

Silas had demanded MORE of something and I signed MORE. He looked at me puzzled.

"Did you forget?"I wondered.

He wiped his hand on his shirt. "No, THIS is more!" he announced.

"That," I explained "is PLEASE". I went on to sign and say more, please, thank you, milk and all done.

"What is the sign for FASTER?" Silas asked.

"Um, I don't know." I replied.

"Nana and Papa know it!" he exclaimed.

(????)

"Yeah, don't you remember on their boat??? How do you say FASTER again?" he questioned.

Both boys smiled at each other and gave a THUMBS-UP. They're right... thumbs-up DOES mean faster on the boat!

WHY wont *this ugly thing* ever FALL OFF THE ROOF

This *ugly thing* came with the house. Technically, TWO of these ugly things came with the house. (We're told that the previous home owners had hosted plenty of Halloween parties, among other reasons to celebrate with friends.) *Lucky for us, they left these gargoyles behind and Mike had decided to place one of them on the roof of the bonus room.

I've HATED this ugly thing ever since he placed it out there, wishing it would BLOW OFF the roof. Sadly, however, this sucker is terribly heavy and isn't blowing anywhere.

I've purposely placed my ladder nearby when climbing onto and off of the roof, in hopes of accidentally knocking it off. No dice... my coordination cooperated in keeping this blasted thing on the roof, knowing good and well that IF I had knocked it down, Mike would replace it with THE OTHER ugly thing.

Took a picture of the ice storm to document the ugly thing that torments me. Hoping to put it into my family Project Life album for the year (once I finally get around to STARTING that album **blushing**).

If I am lucky, Mike will leave these gargoyles behind for the next home owners to... um.... enjoy.

Pete the Cat Family Fun Night

Parents as Teachers Family Fun Night was Pete the Cat themed. They had some GREAT activities!

Our family was LUCKY ENOUGH to win the drawing for a Pete the Cat book, too. AWESOME! (We LOVE books!)

Eddy liked hanging out with his new cat friends, too.

Family fun at the library... PARACHUTE!

Rock, Paper, Scissors

I was SHOCKED that Sydney knew Rock, Paper, Scissors, shoot....

Quickly, he taught it to Silas...

NOW, they play with anyone!

NOTE: On April 20, I made Creamed Eggs on Toast. I suggested that we play Rock, Paper, Scissors a different way, but Silas informed me that we could NOT play my new way: EGG (rock), TOAST (paper), FORK (scissors).
