Favorite Part of the Day FPoD 03_31_2015
Night after night, after making us recount every little detail of our day and events, Silas stumps us with "I'm still thinking; I'll tell you tomorrow!" OR he changes the rules: I can only say mine AFTER Daddy... OR I can only say mine if the lights are OFF... OR I can only tell you if Daddy is here, too.
Typically, Sydney sums his FPoD into one word: SCHOOL! (If we try to coax which part of school was so remarkable, but he is always unable to give us an answer. Art class? Music? Gym? A fantastic lunch? Something fun or funny that happened? The poor guy must hate weekends when he has to actually rethink his day and come up with a valid answer.)
Tonight, marked a miraculous occasion! We all had an answer and they were ALL different!
Mommy went first:
My favorite part of the day was sitting in the sunshine - in our yard - with Sydney and Silas while reading the book with NO WORDS! (The Hero of Little Street by Gregory Rogers) This was essentially a comic book for children.
Sydney was eager to go next:
Buying Girl Scout cookies! (Frank and Bev's grand-daughter stopped by with her wagon of leftover boxes of cookies. Our two choices were Caramel Delights or Peanut Butter Sandwiches. Mike declared that he HATES coconut so, Caramel Delights were out of the questions. I did, however, have the opportunity to tell the boys that THOSE used to be one of my Grandma Olson's FAVORITE Girl Scout cookies. Sydney announced "I remember you telling me about her. She's the one who had secret tunnels in her attic!")
Silas shouted:
When Daddy picked me up from school today... IN HIS TRUCK!
Daddy made us GUESS what HIS favorite part of the day was. I whispered an idea into Sydney's ear, thinking I'd know what his FPoD was. (Dinner as a family is often Daddy's go-to answer, much like SCHOOL is for Sydney.)
Sydney announced "Eating dinner together as a family on our sunporch!"
"That is a great part of my day, but that is NOT my favorite part!"
Hmmmm..... re-thinking.... OH, I think I know... (whisper in Sydney's ear again)
Daddy:
"Was it when Silas fell asleep, snuggled up against you, in your truck?"
"It WAS! That was pretty special."
Silas and Daddy ran errands while Mommy got trigger point injections for her isolated patch of icy hot/ants sensation of her left shoulder that has been going on since last summer. They did one injection near my bra line and two in my neck. Silas fell asleep in the truck - where I found them in the parking lot after my appointment. {so sweet}

DADDY: Listening to Sydney giggle whenever he dumped a cup of water on Daddy's head while taking a bath together.
MOMMY: Watching Silas play Peek-a-Boo with Daddy this morning... peering up over the table and then, down under the table... over and over again. It was REALLY CUTE!
SYDNEY: Going for a walk with snow boots on.

DADDY: Making Cinnamon Roll Cookies with Sydney as my helper.
MOMMY: When Silas waved "HI" and "BYE-BYE" to the friendly cashier at Walgreen's (when we picked up our 2012 Project Life pictures.)
SYDNEY: Riding in the green "car" shopping cart at Daddy's work... it was kind of a rectangle... with yellow doors... and a yellow horn-thing... and was really, Really, REALLY FUN to drive!
What's the Least Favorite Part of your Day?
MOMMY: It's a tie... when a (bigger) little boy (non-supervised, of course) pushed Sydney down at the library to take the toys away from him and soon, paraded through the play area glowing with pride. (Sydney has since complained that his wrist hurts - when he climbs into his carseat.) AND the panic I felt when I discovered that Silas was under the dining room table eating the piece of peanut butter-topped bread that Sydney claimed to have eaten. (The night nurse line informed me that a severe allergic reaction happens almost instantly and that I should keep a close eye on him for 30 minutes or so. Thankfully, he SEEMS fine. I'm really hoping that he does NOT develop a peanut allergy from this... since we enjoy A LOT of peanut butter in this house!)

DADDY: My favorite part of today is that I didn't have a bad part of the day.
MOMMY: When Daddy made me a delicious omelette for breakfast.
SYDNEY: When Daddy drew a zebra and I got to help draw the stripes.
What's the Least Favorite Part of your Day?
MOMMY: When Sydney used a BIG FAT LIE as a stall tactic, claiming that he had to go potty (but had already wet his overnight diaper in the two minutes he was left alone in his bed). After putting him on the toilet and giving him the opportunity to go potty, he could NOT perform so, he was re-diapered and put back into his bedroom where he stood in the doorway yelling and chanting "I want go potty!" for minutes on end... TWELVE MINUTES STRAIGHT as I write this post. Sigh, THAT is my LEAST FAVORITE part of the day today.

What's the Favorite Part of your Day?
DADDY: When I came home from work (late... 9PM) and got to have a group hug with (most of) my family.
MOMMY: Coming home from the grocery store (with Silas) to a house that smelled like SUPER YUMMY dessert that was cooking in the crockpot. It smelled SO GOOD!!!
SYDNEY: Playing with (and reading books with) Papa Lowell.
I'm pretty sure THAT is what he was writing inside. Hearing him say that made my heart melt and reminded me that we're raising a couple of really special little boys. So, overhearing THAT, and later sharing it with Mike, was the favorite part of my day, for sure!
Alternately, I overheard Sydney talking while he was "writing" inside of a card that he made:
Thank you
Daddy and Mommy...
and Sydney and Silas...
for being a
WONDERFUL FAMILY!

What's the Favorite Part of your Day?
DADDY: Eating a yummy cupcake (baked by Sydney and Mommy) when I came home from work today; that was YUMMY!
MOMMY: Overhearing Sydney tell Daddy "I'll be bigger _ike you someday, Daddy. Den I can reach you. I'll be big, too!" AND when it was time to go brush teeth, Sydney asked Daddy "You wan he_p me?" He, then, took Mike by the hand and tried pulling him up off of the living room floor, announcing "I have BIG MUSCLES to _ift you up!" YEP, that was my favorite part of the day.
SYDNEY: Playing Hide & Seek with Daddy and Mommy.

What's the Favorite Part of your Day?
DADDY: Giving Sydney an "adjustment" when he said his back hurts and that he needs medicine. (Mike gave him glorified and goofy hugs, which Sydney said helped a little bit.)

What's the Favorite Part of your Day?
DADDY: Giggling when Sydney asked "Mommy, why'd you yell OH, CRAP?"
MOMMY: When Silas signed the word MILK over-and-over-again at the breastfeeding support group whenever someone would say the word MILK. (He started signing it yesterday and proudly does it today - with a BIG, PROUD GRIN on his face.) Also, thought it was pretty cool (after I had asked Sydney to help me make lunch) when he excitedly asked if we needed to use the church-key to open our can of (tomato) soup. I was impressed that he remembered what it was called.
SYDNEY: Giving Silas HORSIE RIDES (with Daddy's help) AND making a birthday card for Daddy. (Now, however, Sydney thinks we need to give it to Daddy. He also thinks that everyone has a birthday in MAY, just like Silas, Uncle Mike, Mommy and himself. He does NOT understand months yet.)
You wonder... Why DID Mommy yell "Oh, CRAP!"
I was in the process of dumping out the potty chair's bowl of potty into the toilet and the lid started to slam down onto it, knocking it out of my hand and spilling urine all over the bathroom and toilet.

What's the Favorite Part of your Day?

What's the Favorite Part of your Day?
Went to the casino for a belated Christmas with Grandpa's family. While there, Sydney had declared RIDING THE ESCALATOR as his favorite part of today, but he changed his answer by bedtime. After each ride, he'd declare "Just one more time"... it was cute! As we were getting ready to leave, an old woman walked up to me and scolded me for letting Sydney ride on the escalator because "his shoe THINGS could get stuck in there and rip off his entire leg". I assured her that his shoes do not have laces and thanked her for her concern. She stormed off - still repeating her concern. Thankfully, all of Sydney's escalator rides (holding onto Mommy's, Daddy's or Grandpa's hand) were all SAFE and closely supervised.
DADDY: Watching Sydney smile while riding on the escalator.
MOMMY: A bedtime hug with Daddy that turned into a "Silas Sandwich".
SYDNEY: Reading books with Papa (Lowell).
EDITED: Mike had assured me that riding on the escalators is NOT a big deal and that there would not BE escalators if people are losing limbs from them. HOWEVER, turns out - there is some truth to the woman's accusations; children DO tend to get hurt more often when escalator injuries occur. (http://www.snopes.com/horrors/parental/escalator.asp)

What's the Favorite Part of your Day?
YAY! Sydney decided to play along tonight and did NOT tell us that installing the babygate was the favorite part of his day!
DADDY: Watching Sydney give Silas a zerbert while Mommy was changing Silas' diaper; then, listening to Silas giggle.
MOMMY: Playing outside in the snow with Sydney; I haven't had a snowball fight or gone sledding in a long, long time and it was really fun!
SYDNEY: Rolling down the hill (like a log). "That was CRAZY!"

What's the Favorite Part of your Day?
Sydney informed us AGAIN TONIGHT that building that babygate with Daddy was the favorite part of his day.
DADDY: Our supper tonight. (Daddy cooked delicious, juicy pork chops tonight!)
MOMMY: Prior to bedtime, my FPOD was taking a picture of the little boys watching out the stairway window as Daddy used the new snow thrower to blow snow. HOWEVER, at bedtime, my FPOD changed to bedtime itself – when Silas and Sydney were busy smiling/giggling at each other and hugging while Silas took turns pulling Sydney's hair for fun, and where Sydney giggled and encouraged him to do it again. (I know that THIS will NOT last forever; enjoy it while it lasts!)
SYDNEY: Watching Disney's Ratatouille (from the library) and later reading some of the Ratatouille books that we got for Christmas gifts from Nana & Papa Olson. (NOTE: We have not finished the movie; we had to turn it off after going potty in Daddy's recliner.)
